Order Palio di Siena DVD
To describe the Palio in words is always extremely complicated because the emotions lived by the inhabitants of Siena and the intricacy of the race are extremely complicated. The only way one can render the event justice is to view it and try to understand the traditions of the Contradas; the seventeen neighbourhoods that compose the city and that compete in the bare back horse around the world renown Piazza del Campo. The Days of the Palio is a brief history of the unique medieval tradition that is held twice a year in Siena. Riccardo Domenichini and Barbara Castelli have chosen a series of images they shot themselves in the past years and assembled in a truly informative documentary narrated by best selling author Dario Castagno a fierce and proud member of the Noble Caterpillar Contrada of Siena.
The video will enlighten you on what is probably the most felt medieval tradition of Italy, a tradition that for centuries has attracted sociologists that very rarely have succeeded in realizing the reason why it's so deeply and passionately rooted right into the bone marrow of each single inhabitant of Siena. By viewing this video you will experience not only breathtaking clips from memorable races but also the celebrations of the victors and the intense emotions the Sienese live on the days proceeding the Palio. The video has been approved by the local Consortium of the Palio.
Released in 2002 this video is a must for anyone that is deeply in love with Tuscany and its traditions.
