Montalcino Tours

The area surrounding Montalcino is one of my favourite, I find amazing the bounty of contrasting landscapes that the countryside offers. In just a matter of minutes you cross the desert almost moon landscapes to the lush forested district surrounding Montalcino. Simply relax and let Franco transport you to the land of the world famous Brunello wine and meditate while listening to the monks chant in the magical atmosphere of an 8th century abbey.

Pick up is at 9.00am Franco will drive you through the moon-landscapes of the Crete Senesi.

We visit one of Italy's jewels, the Monte Oliveto Maggiore monastery, where Franco will explain one by one each of the twenty-one frescoes, painted around the cloister by Luca Signorelli and Sodoma in the 16th century.

Our next stop is delightful Montalcino. After exploring the town, we pause for lunch prepared by the owners of a winery producer of the world-famous Brunello wine.. Franco is driving, so enjoy all the wine you want! As an alternative you can decide to have a light lunch with tasting of very unique hams/salamis and exclusive cheeses

Now we travel even farther back, into the 8th century. In a wonderfully atmospheric setting, we'll hear a Gregorian vesper service sung by the monks themselves.

Before returning we will stop and visit one of the most prestigious producers of the Brunello wine

Return to your hotel in the evening.
